The 22-year-old signed a four-year contract with the Seagulls, and is now eager to take his game to the next level at the club.

He said, “It’s a dream of mine to play in the Premier League, and once I had met the manager and found out that the club was interested in me, I had a good feeling straight away.

“It’s a team that fits in well with me, and like them, I want to improve. I managed to do that when I arrived in England with Brentford, and now it’s time for me to work twice as hard because it is the best league in the world.

“I know it will be tough, but I am really excited and I have that desire to work hard for this club.”

Maupay arrives on the south coast after a stellar 2018/19 campaign, which saw him plunder 25 Championship goals and win a host of individual awards.

“It was crazy because I scored a lot of goals and I received those trophies, which meant a lot to me. My first season was hard because I wasn’t playing every game and I needed to adapt to another style of football.

“In that second year, a lot of people recognised my quality as a player, so I am really proud to have achieved what I have done at Brentford.”

The Frenchman also spoke about his key attributes as a player, and says he is eager to link up with the club’s other forward players, paying tribute to Glenn Murray in particular.

“First of all, I am a goalscorer that wants to score goals, but I am a player who gives 100 per cent on the pitch in every single game. I like to hold the ball up, and time my runs into the box to try and score more goals.

“For us as a team, it is good to have several players in the same position, as it will bring some competition between us and push us to work harder and become even better.

“There are strikers here with Premier League experience, so I am looking forward to working with them and seeing how we can play together.

“Glenn Murray is one of them. I’m young so I can learn a lot of things from him, so I will try to talk and work with him on and off the pitch to see how he can help me to be ready for this next step.”
