Loan round-up: White impresses on Leeds debut

Albion defender Ben White made his Championship debut for Leeds United in their 3-1 win away at Bristol City.

Ben White was named in the EFL Team of the Week.

White produced a confident and assured 90-minute display in the heart of the Leeds defence, as goals from Pablo Hernandez, Patrick Bamford and Jack Harrison put the visitors 3-0 in front. Andreas Weimann fired in a consolation for City.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Christian Walton started for Blackburn Rovers in their 2-1 opening-day defeat to Charlton Athletic. Goals from Ben Purrington and Lyle Taylor either side of a Dillon Phillips own goal, gave the Addicks all three points.

Anthony Knockaert was a second-half substitute for Fulham in a 1-0 defeat to Yorkshire rivals Barnsley at Oakwell, after a first-half winner from Luke Thomas.

Jan Mlakar was an unused substitute in a 2-1 win for Queens Park Rangers at Stoke City, courtesy of goals from Jordan Hugill and Eberechi Eze.

In League One, Robert Sanchez made his debut between the sticks for Rochdale in an eventful 3-2 win away at newly-promoted Tranmere Rovers.

Ian Henderson’s brace, including one from the penalty spot, alongside a Rhys Norrington-Davies strike, ensured the Spanish shot-stopper made a winning start to his time in Greater Manchester.

Across the English Channel in Belgium, Percy Tau scored on his Club Brugge debut in a 6-0 win over Saint Truiden on Friday night. The South African scored the fourth goal in the rout, alongside David Okereke (2), Hans Vanaken, Emmanuel Dennis and Siebe Schrijvers.

Meanwhile, over in Germany, Viktor Gyokeres came on as second-half substitute for FC St. Pauli in their 3-1 defeat to Greuther Furth in Bundesliga 2.

Matthew Clarke could be the next Albion loanee in action when Derby County open their Championship campaign away at Huddersfield Town this evening.
