Baluta was a key part of the side which reached the last four of the competition, before falling to a 4-2 defeat to Germany in the semi-finals, and he looked at the promising aspects that could be taken from the tournament.

He said, “I think the future is very bright for the national team and we have a young and talented generation.

“I’m sure we will have a good amount of players who will make the national side and we have a good basis to build from going forward.

“The tournament was an amazing experience for everyone, we got to the semi-final stage which was a great result for the country. “

The side ended the group stage unbeaten after wins over Croatia and England, before a 0-0 draw with France saw them advance to the knockout stages.

Baluta singled out the dramatic 4-2 win over the Three Lions as being a stand-out moment, which earned the side plaudits aplenty.

“We managed to finish first in a really hard group too and I’m very happy with how it went, it’s something I will never forget and of course learn from,” he continued.

“The win over England raised the profile and we got a lot of praise; it was a crazy game which ended well for us.

“Of course, it was tough because England are a good side, but we fought until the end and it was a great result which showed what we can do.”

The 20-year-old joined up with Graham Potter’s squad on the south coast last week after returning from time off following the aforementioned international duty, an experience he has so far thoroughly enjoyed.

“It’s been great, and the welcome has been nice. I’ve had a week now to get used to both the other members of the team and then the club.

“I think it’s been a good period with the game last Friday [against Crawley Town] and I’m happy with everything so far.

“The head coach has a reputation of playing young players like myself and giving them a chance and of course that is an important aspect.

“He likes offensive football which I’m used to, and I think it will be good for both me and team.”
