Albion Aim For Consecutive League Wins

By Jake Ketley • 13 January 2019

Brighton & Hove Albion will have the opportunity to bounce back from their FA Continental Tyres Cup defeat  when they host Everton this afternoon, kick-off 2pm.

Hope Powell’s side are back at The People’s Pension Stadium for the first time in 2019, and will be looking to pick up their second win in two FA Women’s Super League matches.

The Seagulls kicked off 2019 with a 2-0 win over Everton’s Merseyside rivals Liverpool, as Laura Rafferty and Ini Umotong sealed a 2-0 victory.

That was Albion’s first away win in the league, and their first clean sheet in all competitions this season.

Today’s opponents had a tricky start to the New Year, as they took on current FA WSL holders Chelsea.

An early goal from Bethany England set the Blues on their way, and further strikes from Drew Spence and Hannah Blundell secured a 3-0 win.

Everton head into the match having not played in midweek, whereas Albion travelled to Manchester City on Thursday to play their Conti Cup quarter-final.

The Seagulls lost out 7-1 to Nick Cushing’s team, but managed to rest some key players ahead of today’s challenge.

The two teams met earlier in the season and played out a 3-3 draw in Southport. A thunderous 30-yard strike from Dani Buet gave Albion the lead before Everton hit back to take a commanding 3-1 lead.

But Hope Powell’s side didn’t let their heads drop, and two second half Ellie Brazil headers levelled the match to claim the Seagulls’ first-ever FA WSL point.

After the latest round of fixtures, Albion overtook the Toffees in the league table to move up to ninth place, but with today’s visitors having played one game more.

Albion supporters can follow a live text blog on the Match Centre, with a match report to go online shortly after the full-time whistle.

Tickets will be available to purchase on the gate at The People’s Pension Stadium at the turnstiles. There are priced at £10 for adults and £4 for under-10s.
