Brighton & Hove Albion women’s first-team manager Hope Powell thought her side deserved to win today’s FA Women’s Super League match, but was happy to take a point away at Bristol City.
Powell explained that she was naturally disappointed not to win, but was encouraged by her team’s positive intent.
She said, “I’m disappointed that we didn’t win, but I’m also really pleased that we didn’t lose. We were really up for it today, we committed lots of bodies forward and played on the front foot.
“We just need to be clinical, if we’d have taken one of the chances, we’d have won the game. It’s a valuable point, so we will go home happy.
“Credit must go to Bristol City, they were very resilient. It was a good game, end-to-end with good entertainment value for the neutral.
“I was a bit disappointed that we didn’t win because I thought we deserved to, but I’m pleased with the point.”
After being defeated in the SSE Women’s FA Cup last week by Women’s Championship side Manchester United, Powell was happy that her team put that behind them to display a more positive performance this weekend.
“It was a very good response from us. We displayed a good attitude and we implemented the things we worked on during the course of the week, so we’ll gain a lot of confidence from that and the point really does help us.
“I think the good thing is that we created a lot of chances today and we’ll take a lot of heart from that. Even though we didn’t score, it’s better to create chances and not score than create none at all.
“It was a team effort and everyone played their part, both defensively and offensively. We need a rest and it took a lot out of us today."
Powell then looked ahead to Albion's next match against Birmingham City on Wednesday 20th February, and stressed that it will be another big test for her team.
“They’re a good team, just look at where they are in the league. We’ll need to be at our best and be resilient to get something out of the game.
“It will be tough and we may have to set up slightly differently to how we did today. We need to enjoy this moment, have a day off and go again, as it will be another difficult task for us.”
