Powell: It Was Our Best Result Of The Season

By James Hilsum • 20 February 2019

Brighton & Hove Albion women’s first-team manager Hope Powell believes that tonight’s 2-1 win over Birmingham City was her side’s best result of the season so far.

Goals from Kayleigh Green and Ellie Brazil saw Albion recover from a goal down to claim an impressive victory over high-flying Blues, as the Seagulls move nine points clear of bottom club Yeovil Town.

Powell said, “I’m not sure it was our best performance but probably the best result.

“Birmingham are fourth in the league so it is a massive three points for us.

“In terms of how we conducted ourselves and managed the game, we did really well. I’m really pleased.”

Powell admits that Albion had to ride their luck at times during the match, but praised her players for putting in a disciplined display.

“We knew we were still in it [after they scored], so we went on the front foot, tried to gain some momentum, and we got it.

“It was a tight game; we tried to be resilient in defence and the players executed what we practised in training and everyone is feeling very good tonight.

“Everything about the game plan felt right, and thankfully it paid off.”

Despite the nine-point cushion between themselves and the sole relegation place, the Seagulls boss says the battle to stay in the division is not done yet.

“It isn’t over but we’ll enjoy this moment. It’s a great result with no game for three weeks.

“It gives us a chance to recover, and the confidence to know we’re good enough to be here in this division.”
