Albion Manager Wins Lma Award

By James Hilsum • 11 March 2019

Brighton & Hove Albion women's first-team manager Hope Powell has won the LMA FA Women's Super League Manager of the Month trophy for February.

Albion secured two impressive results in February, including a hard-fought goalless draw away at Bristol City and a 2-1 win over Birmingham City at the People's Pension Stadium.

She said, “I’m very pleased, and I’d like to thank the panel for voting for me. I’d also like to thank the players, without whom this wouldn’t be possible, and the staff too, who have been tremendous.

“There were some massive points gained in February, and the win against Birmingham was probably our biggest of the season so far. It has given us a lot more confidence going into our next game. It was a very pleasing month.”

Chair of the League Managers Association panel Marieanne Spacey-Cale added, “Whilst Hope and her squad have taken their time adjusting to the WSL, the two positive results in February highlighted Hope’s belief in her squad and how time is required, to build that belief and the playing philosophy of how she wants her players to play.

“These two results can be a strong platform for Hope to continue to build consistency of performances for the rest of the season with her players.”

The LMA panel for the monthly awards involves four highly experienced individuals with specialist knowledge of the women’s game and football management, including Marieanne Spacey-Cale (LMA member and Southampton head of girls and women’s football/head coach), Alex Scott (Ex-England international and football broadcaster), Jen O’Neill (She Kicks editor - women's football magazine) and Alan Curbishley (LMA board member and LMA Manager of the Year 1999/2000).
