Potter Cannot Wait To Get Started

By Bruce Talbot • 22 May 2019

Graham Potter says he cannot wait to get down to work with the Brighton & Hove Albion players when they report back for pre-season training.

By then the transfer window will have opened, but the new head coach says his focus will be on working with and improving the players who are already in the squad.

Asked about potential transfer activity this summer, Potter said, “Any football club will look to use the window to try to improve, and that’s a normal process, but my focus has always been on trying to help the players who are already here to get better. There are some good players here and a lot of good work has already been done.

“It’s the old cliché: it’s a clean slate. I’m looking forward to meeting everybody, getting to understand what they’re about and what qualities they bring to the group on and off the pitch. But clearly during every transfer window you want to try to help the team to get better.”

It promises to be a busy summer for the 44-year-old, who was appointed on a four-year contract on Monday. But he says he will take some time out to recharge his batteries before pre-season gets underway.

“I think my wife would lock the door on me if I said I wasn’t going to have a few days away with my family!” he said.

“For my own self, I need a couple of days to reflect and enjoy a bit of sunshine. But in the meantime, I will think and plan how we can carry on developing the club in the off-season.

“So, there won’t be too much holiday time, but enough to be refreshed and come back and hit the ground running.”
