Mixed Fortunes For Albion Players

By James Hilsum • 11 June 2019

Brighton & Hove Albion defender Shane Duffy helped the Republic of Ireland to four points from two Euro 2020 qualifiers, after a 2-0 win over Gibraltar in Dublin.

Mick McCarthy’s side secured the three points courtesy of Roy Chipolina’s own goal and Robbie Brady’s stoppage time header.

The game concludes Duffy’s international action this season, as Ireland sit top of Group D with ten points from four games played.

Meanwhile, there was disappointment for Beram Kayal and Israel, who were on the receiving end of a 4-0 defeat to Poland in Warsaw.

Krzysztof Piatek, Robert Lewandowski (penalty) and a goal each from Pawel Grosicki and Damian Kadzior secured the win for the hosts.

Looking ahead, Alireza Jahanbakhsh could feature for Iran today when they face South Korea in an international friendly in Seoul.

Viktor Gyokeres will also be targeting more game time today in an under-21 friendly for Sweden against Finland.
