The 29-year-old missed a large chunk of last season due to an unfortunate nerve injury, and is now ready to help the club make a name for themselves at the highest level.
She said, “I’ve had a nice summer and I’m really glad to be back now. The first season was a bit of a whirlwind for me in terms of signing and being on a full-time contract, so now is about getting some more game time for myself and helping Brighton to establish themselves in this league.
“Last season I played a cup game against Chelsea, and was then out for three or four months. I spent a lot of that period trying to work my way back from that injury, but now I’m ready to go and see it as a fresh start.
“I never had a serious injury before this one, but now I’ll be aiming to use this experience in a positive way and it’s given me even more motivation to put on a Brighton shirt.”
Simpkins spoke about matters away from the Albion and praised the Lionesses for an impressive run to the World Cup semi-finals, and hopes it will boost attendances across the Women’s Super League.
“I’ve been really impressed by what I saw at the World Cup, and you can see the impact it has had at home by what it’s done at grassroots level.
“So many people are talking about how well England have done. They’ve made their country proud and they should hold their heads up high, as getting to a semi-final is an outstanding achievement.
“You only have to look at how many people have watched the games, and hopefully that will push more people to come and watch their local WSL clubs.”
The midfielder is expecting a much tougher challenge in the WSL next season, but believes the squad will continue to improve, particularly with the addition of players like Netherlands international Danique Kerkdijk.
“We gained so much experience last season and our performances were getting better and better. We’re only going to get better heading into the new campaign, and whilst we know the challenge will be even greater, we’re taught that pressure and challenges are privileges.
“Having someone like Danique and her experience will definitely help us. She was involved in a World Cup Final squad, and she’ll be a great addition to the squad.
“We’re all very much looking forward to having her here.”
