Locadia Back In Training

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton revealed that club-record signing Jurgen Locadia has been back in training with the side as he continues his return from injury.

The Dutch forward became the Seagulls first recruit of the January transfer window when he put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year deal with the Seagulls, and the Albion boss was pleased that he was able to see his new man in action on Thursday.

He said, “He’s been training today [Thursday] which is good news for us.

“It’s not early enough to consider him for the game this Saturday [against West Ham United] because he’s been out for around six weeks, but we’re hopeful that he’ll be available for the game with Stoke City.

“It’s a big boost for us – he’s our record signing and he’s come back earlier than anticipated.”

The frontman has been side-lined due to a hamstring injury he picked up with previous club PSV Eindhoven back in December, and the Seagulls boss revealed that Locadia hadn’t been the victim of any further setbacks following training.

“It was great to see him back out on the training field earlier and he hasn’t had any ill effects from the injury he suffered either.

“The big thing that he has to do now is build his fitness again – we’ve got two injuries with Jiri [Skalak] and Steve [Sidwell] but apart from that everyone is fit and training, and the competition within the squad is good.”
