Albion's Goodison Memories

Brighton & Hove Albion will make their first visit to Goodison Park in over 36 years on Saturday afternoon, and the Seagulls fared well on their previous two games against Everton on Merseyside.

Their opening top-flight match at Goodison Park ended in a 2-0 defeat for Alan Mullery’s team, before an exhilarating contest in 1980 saw the Seagulls narrowly beaten 4-3 on the road.

But Albion managed to take their first point from Everton’s home ground in 1981, when Michael Robinson equalised for the Seagulls following Billy Wright's opener.

Robinson found his name on the scoresheet again when the sides met during Albion's final top-flight season in the 1980s, cancelling out Adrian Heath's goal for the Toffees in front of 17,539 supporters at Goodison Park.

With the game level at 1-1, Wright put Everton back in front and looked to have wrapped up the points, but Jimmy Case cut in off the wing and curled a wonderful effort past Neville Southall to have the final say and make it 2-2.

Chris Hughton’s team will now go in search of the club’s first-ever victory at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon, with a crucial three points up for grabs in their battle to survive in the Premier League this season.
