When The Terriers Are In Town

Brighton & Hove Albion have welcomed Huddersfield Town to the Amex Stadium in five of their six full seasons at their latest home - and Chris Hughton’s side will be looking to continue their unbeaten home run against the Terriers on Saturday.

The Seagulls broke away from this weekend’s Yorkshire opponents for their first season at the Amex in 2011/12, but the Terriers joined Albion in the Championship for the following campaign, after winning promotion from League One.

Five seasons of league matches followed, before the clubs sealed historic promotions to the Premier League - but the Yorkshire club are yet to get the better of the Seagulls since their 3-2 victory at the Withdean Stadium in 2011.

In fact, Huddersfield’s last win on the road was Albion’s final match at their previous home, but the Seagulls - under Gus Poyet, Oscar Garcia and Chris Hughton - have fared better in the years that followed, as they settled into their new stadium.

Albion secured an impressive 4-1 victory over Huddersfield in 2013 en route to securing a play-off position, and the game is well remembered for Leonardo Ulloa’s hat-trick - the first scored by an Albion player at the Amex.

Back-to-back goalless draws followed over the next two seasons, with Garcia in charge for the first game, before Hughton found himself in Albion’s dugout for the 2015 clash, following Sami Hyypia’s departure.

Goals from James Wilson and Bobby Zamora helped Albion to a 2-1 win over the Terriers in 2016, after Harry Bunn equalised on the stroke of half-time for the visitors.

An 80th-minute Anthony Knockaert strike which crept under the arms of Danny Ward sealed all three points for Hughton’s men last season, but Albion’s victory didn’t stop Huddersfield from following in their footsteps, as both clubs won promotion to the top flight.

Saturday’s opponents stretched their home record to five games unbeaten with their 2-0 win earlier this season at the John Smith’s Stadium - but Albion now have their chance to continue theirs, when both sides look to move one step closer to safety this weekend.
