Ulloa On The Need For A Tough Mentality

By Alex Stedman • 30 April 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion striker Leonardo Ulloa explained there is a good mood in the camp after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Burnley.

Both sides cancelled one another out on a tight afternoon in Lancashire, and the forward stressed the importance of supporting one another ahead of the final three fixtures of the campaign.

He said, “The feeling in the team is that we are in a good position at the moment, and we have three difficult games, so we have to give our best.

“At the moment we’re doing well and can only focus on ourselves rather than results around us.

“You need a tough mentality and need to fight for the rest of the season – we need to stay united as a group ahead of our remaining matches – we know we need some more points on the board before the end of the campaign.”

The Argentine striker made his first Premier League start since his return to the Seagulls at the weekend, and he was delighted to be back in the first eleven.

“They’re a difficult opponent who always give everything, but I thought we played well and defended solidly as a side.

“For myself it was nice to be back in the team, but I recognise I still need more minutes on the pitch to improve my fitness.

“I feel good and was happy to play – but I want it to be more regualry, Saturday was physical but I felt good on the whole.

“It was a bit of a defensive task for me at times because they played long balls, and as a team we prefer to try and pass the ball, but a point is good for us and it should give us confidence with the clean sheet as well.”

Ulloa also pointed to the significance of maintaining the team's level-headedness and focus as the season draws to a close.

“We have to make everything about ourselves first and foremost.

“We need to be calm and focus on ourselves – personally I enjoyed starting today and it was tough, but I like playing for this team.

“I don’t know about my future at the moment – my main focus is to make sure we’re safe in this league and then I can begin to think about that.”
