Fixture Focus: The New Faces

By Alex Stedman • 16 June 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion’s fixtures for the 2018/19 Premier League season were confirmed on Thursday morning – so when will Chris Hughton’s side face the newly-promoted trio of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Cardiff City and Fulham?

The side’s first meeting with one of the newcomers to the division will be on Saturday 1st September when Slavisa Jokanovic brings his Fulham side to the south coast.

The meeting between the sides at the Amex Stadium will be the first time the teams have met since the dramatic 2-1 win for the Seagulls in January 2017.

That day in west London saw two goals in as many second-half minutes turn the contest on its head – as Tomer Hemed’s penalty and a header from Lewis Dunk sealed three points for Albion.

On Saturday 27th October the Seagulls then host Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Amex Stadium. The contest with Nuno Espirito Santo’s men will be the last of the month and the first time the sides will have met since the 2016/17 season.

The last time the teams met, on Good Friday, a brace from Anthony Knockaert secured a 2-0 win for Albion, which set up the promotion-winning game at home to Wigan Athletic three days later on Easter Monday.

A fortnight later Hughton and the side make the journey to south Wales to face Cardiff City on Saturday 10th November – Hemed’s second-half strike was the difference between the two teams when they last met in January 2017 at the Amex.

The first reverse fixture between Albion and a promoted side will be on Tuesday 29th January when the Seagulls make the trip to the capital to face Fulham at Craven Cottage, before Cardiff City then visit the Amex on Saturday 16th March.

Hughton’s team then make the trip to Molineux to face Wolves on Saturday 20th April.
