Walton On Wigan Return

By James Hilsum • 23 June 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Christian Walton expressed his joy at re-joining Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan, and is looking forward to testing himself in the Sky Bet Championship.

Walton heads back to the DW Stadium after helping the Latics to the League One title last season, and admits it was an easy decision re-sign for the Lancashire side.

He told iFollow Latics, “I’m obviously absolutely delighted to be back. The season didn’t start well for me last year by getting injured so early on, but coming back in December and kicking on for the remainder of the season was unbelievable.

“It was a great season individually and collectively, so I’m really looking forward to the challenge of Championship football.

“Coming back here means I don’t need to settle in with a new team and get to know another group of lads, staff and fans, so it’ll be an easy transition for me.

“It was such a good season for everyone last year and I’ve got lots of good memories and great relationships with the players and the fans at the club.

“It was a no-brainer really because we had some great nights of football last year; the Manchester City game was obviously a massive highlight and then the Oxford game at home to get the vital three points that took us clear, so it’s things like that that will live long in the memory.”

The young shot-stopper also set his sights on his long-term aspirations and is eager to come back to Albion and play for the club in the Premier League.

“The main aim in my career is to play Premier League football as it is most lads I’m sure, so going back to Brighton and being number one there is my aim.

“This will be a good season for me to go from League One to the Championship. I’ll have played in League Two, League One and the Championship then, so the ultimate progression is Premier League football.”
