World Cup Round-up: Unbeaten Second Round For Albion Trio

By Alex Stedman • 25 June 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion's Maty Ryan, Leon Balogun and Jose Izquierdo all enjoyed an unbeaten second round of group matches at the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Ryan and Australia continued their Group C campaign with a 1-1 draw against Denmark, after Mile Jedinak scored his second penalty in as many matches for the Socceroos to cancel out Christian Eriksen's stylish opener.

The result means that Ryan and the side go into Tuesday's final group game with Peru in Sochi with a chance of progressing to the knockout stages.

Balogun and Nigeria secured an impressive 2-0 win over Iceland as a double from Ahmed Musa gave the Super Eagles a vital victory in Group D that leaves them in second position going into Tuesday night's game with Argentina in St Petersburg.

Finally, Izquierdo's Colombia recorded a 3-0 win over Poland last night thanks to goals from Yerry Mina, Radamel Falcao and Juan Cuadrado to leave Jose Pekerman's side on three points going into their final group game with Senegal on Thursday evening.
