Umotong Set To Face The Best

By James Hilsum • 01 July 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion women’s first-team striker Ini Umotong cannot wait to test herself against the very best players when the team enters the revamped FA Women’s Super League.

Albion will be taking on the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal next season, and Umotong is eager to pit her wits with some of the biggest names in the women’s game.

She said, “It will be a big step up. We have a few girls that have experience of playing in the top flight, but a lot of us haven’t played in the division before now.

“We had good exposure to it last season playing against Chelsea, Man City and Bristol City, and it’s nice to know we can compete with the best.

“We’re very excited and looking to give it all we have in the Women’s Super League.”

Umotong revealed some of the defenders she is most looking forward to facing and wants to prove her capabilities at the highest level.

“The likes of Millie Bright and Anita Asante were the players that I followed growing up and it will be exciting for me to play against those players.

“I feel like I’ve got a point to prove playing against players I looked up to when I was younger, and that serves as extra motivation for me.

“It will be a huge opportunity for me, and it will only help me to improve.”

The more immediate focus for Albion and the rest of the squad will be the upcoming pre-season trip to Portugal and the forward explained the importance of the week-long trip.

“It will be massive to be in a new country with a different environment and all the girls being together.

“It will be a hard, physical week for all of us and it will do wonders for our fitness.

“We’re all really excited for it and ready to get going.”
