Gyokeres Reflects On Austria Training Camp

By Alex Stedman • 15 July 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion under-23 striker Viktor Gyokeres reflected positively on the time he spent with the first team during the side’s recent pre-season training camp in Austria.

The Swedish striker enjoyed a prolific campaign last term for Simon Rusk’s 2017/18 double-winning side, and he was rewarded with a place on the trip as a result.

He said, “It’s a week that I really enjoyed, and it was a really good experience for me.

“It’s been hard work, but I knew it would be – the place where we stayed was really nice and I liked it a lot, so it’s been a great opportunity.

“There were a few of us who were in the under-23 side who came out here and it’s probably partly because of how well the group did last year. We got promoted and won a lot of matches and hopefully I can improve and kick on again next year.”

Having notched eight times last term, Gyokeres insisted that his aim for the forthcoming 2018/19 season is to make the step up to the senior squad, and  highlighted the positive impact the tour to Austria would have on him during the new campaign.

“The objective for myself has to be to push on towards the first team.

“I’ll have to keep working hard both on and off the pitch and then see what happens from there.

“This experience will help me massively regardless, because it will stand me in good stead for when I go back to the under-23s as well.

“Then if I get a chance with the first team I’ll be familiar with the set up and the people too – it’s where I want to be so hopefully I can achieve that.”
