Brett Swayed By Powell's Influence

New Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Jodie Brett explained that the influence of both Hope Powell and Amy Merricks were crucial in her decision to join the club.

The 22-year-old has arrived on a one-year deal and feels the Seagulls coaching duo can help to advance her game.

She said, “I feel that Hope and Amy are really going to push me on to get me to where I want to be.

“Hope has also got a lot of experience in developing players and I am sure that I can progress here under her guidance.

“What also appealed about the club is that it’s a really good family environment and Brighton do a lot in the community too.

“I felt so welcome when I came down.”

Brett will link up with a number of familiar faces when she arrives at the club following her time at Chelsea, and she already got a good feel of the place before signing on the dotted line.

"I’ve played with Danni [Buet], Laura Rafferty, Jenna Legg and Marie Hourihan. I know a few of the girls already, so it’s nice to have a few familiar faces in the environment.

“I spoke to a few of them about the club, and it’s good to have some people already in the camp who can give you a feel of what it’s like day to day.

“They all said that I would be happy here.”

The midfielder also highlighted the qualities she can bring to the team and believes the team can relish their underdog tag playing in FA WSL 1.

“I’m looking to develop my individual game, but I think I can bring creativity to the team and maybe something a little bit different to what they’ve had before. I am excited to get started.

“Brighton are a new club in FA WSL 1, they’ve got some experience in FA WSL 2 under their belts and we’ll be the underdogs, which is not a bad thing.

“I am looking to learn off some of the players here and kick on to the next level.”
