Legg Ready To Face The Best

By James Hilsum • 19 August 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Jenna Legg cannot wait to test herself against the best when they face Chelsea in the FA WSL Continental Tyres League Cup on Sunday.

Legg came through the ranks at the west London club, and is encouraging her team-mates to embrace the challenge posed by Emma Hayes’s star-studded squad.

She said, "These are the games every player should be excited for.

“These are teams we want to be competing against, and I want to challenge myself against one of the top teams in the country.

“It’s important that we don’t shy away from the challenge and we’ve just got to worry about ourselves and go into it like any other game.”

Albion faced the Blues in the same competition last season and despite losing 3-0, Hope Powell’s side earned plenty of plaudits for their gutsy and determined display.

“We learned so much from that game; I thought we did ourselves proud and held on for a long time.

“At stages, we could’ve nicked something from that game. We learned that we can be really disciplined in defence, and have got a lot of pace going forward that can cause the top teams problems.

“We’ll need to be solid in defence again this time and will have to be sensible with how we approach the game, but we want to take it to them.”

The midfielder also commented on the progression from playing part-time to full-time football, and hopes all the hard work will pay off.

“We’ve been in from the crack of dawn until early afternoon most days, so we’re all in that mindset now and we want to make the most of it.

“It’s tough transitioning from part-time to full-time, which is never going to be easy, but the work we’ve put in has made everyone stronger and hopefully better for it. Hopefully we can go and show that.

“We’re so excited and have all been working so hard, not just the players, but all the staff behind the scenes too. We want to show that on the biggest stage for everyone to see.”
