By James Hilsum • 27 August 2018

  • Albion record their first win of the season
  • Stefan Vukoje and Matt Everitt on target
  • Tyrese Omotoye scores for Norwich
  • The Seagulls are next in action against Reading

Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-18s recorded their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Norwich City at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre.

Goals from Stefan Vukoje and Matt Everitt were enough to overcome the Canaries, who found the net through Tyrese Omotoye.

Jayden Onen created Albion’s first chance when he broke well down the left side and picked out Lorent Tolaj, but the latter’s effort went over the bar.

Onen then played a pass to Jack Spong, who in turn set up Tolaj, but his long-range shot just cleared the target.

Onen was involved in the thick of the action again and linked up well with Spong to set up a chance for Vukoje, who saw his shot go over the bar.

Albion missed a chance to break the deadlock when Matt Everitt was fouled in the box and
Onen saw his subsequent penalty saved by Norwich keeper William Johnson.

But the hosts took the lead which their dominance deserved, after some good link-up play involving Ben Clark-Eden and Cameron Tutt resulted in Spong’s pass towards Vukoje, who slammed his shot into the top corner.

The visitors restored parity to the scoreline just past the hour mark when they took advantage of a mix up in defence and Omotoye scored a tap in from close range.

But Mark Beard’s and Mikey Harris’s side took their first three points of the season courtesy of Everitt, who headed home Vukoje’s cross at the near post to make the final score 2-1.

ALBION: Rees; Tanimowo (Turns 84), Weaire, Clark-Eden, Tutt; Everitt, Leonard, Spong, Onen; Tolaj (Leahy 69), Vukoje (Marshall 76).
