Brighton & Hove Albion winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh was joined by Chris Hughton and Paul Winstanley at the Gala Footballer of the Year awards on Monday evening, where he picked up two awards at the ceremony in Amsterdam.

The 25-year-old, who became Albion’s club-record signing in July, fired 21 goals for AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch Eredivisie last season, and the Iranian received his top goalscorer award at the prestigious ceremony.

Jahanbakhsh also took home the Silver Boot award, which recognised the winger as the second-best player in the Eredivisie during the 2017/18 campaign, behind Golden Boot winner and Ajax midfielder Hakim Ziyech.

The evening added to Jahanbakhsh’s memorable year, which also saw him feature three times for Iran at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia before making his move to Sussex.

He has made three substitute appearances for the Seagulls in the Premier League this season, and played his first full 90 minutes against Southampton in the Carabao Cup.
