Buet: Lessons Will Be Learned

By James Hilsum • 10 September 2018

Danielle Buet says Brighton & Hove Albion will take plenty of lessons from Sunday’s FA Women’s Super League defeat to Bristol City, and felt the side were unfortunate not to take something from the game.

The Seagulls were undone by Lucy Graham’s long-range finish midway through the second half, and the Albion captain believes a lack of cutting edge upfront proved costly.

She said, “We probably deserved something from the game and we thought their goal came against the run of play, which is frustrating, but we need to put away our chances.

“We’ll go away, analyse it and go from there. We know as a team that we need to be more clinical in front of goal in that final third. It’s frustrating that we didn’t get anything from it.

“We didn’t start well in the first half, were a bit slow and sluggish and we came out in the second half and created a few chances from corners.

“Then they hit us with a bit of a freak goal in many respects because it was against the run of play. It’s frustrating because I don’t think we deserved it, but credit to Bristol, they stuck it out and held us off.”

Buet believes that a number of positives can be taken from an otherwise disappointing afternoon, and hailed the overall depth within the squad, as a number of players missed Sunday’s game due to injury.

“As a collective, I felt that we were secure defensively and didn’t feel under threat. We worked a lot on our shape, and it didn’t look like we would get dominated.

“We are creating chances as well, and we need to be a bit cleverer in that final third. Although it’s frustrating, we’ll analyse it in the coming days and look forward to playing London Bees next weekend.

“We’ve got such a strong squad and when you look at the players that were injured, they are ones that can make an impact. It’s not how we wanted to start the season, but we know we’ve got plenty more games to come. We’ll get better; we are a new team in a sense that more game time together will help us.”
