Connolly Eager To Continue Working Hard

By Alex Stedman • 15 September 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion under-23 striker Aaron Connolly is determined to keep adding to his goal tally for the season following his winning strike in the 2-1 win over West Ham United on Friday evening at the Amex Stadium.

The Irish forward found the back of the net 12 minutes from time against the East Londoners after Viktor Gyokeres had equalised three minutes earlier, and Connolly was keen to emphasise his determination to continue his form which has seen him find the back of the net five times already this season.

He said, “It’s been a good start to the campaign for me and I’m very happy with my goals – but I’m also eager to keep working hard to score more.

“Strikers are based on goals and if I can keep scoring and the team keep winning then we’re always going to be talked about.

“That’s all I want to keep doing – helping the team and making sure I keep scoring – that’s how I’ll keep people in the club thinking about me in their plans.”

Simon Rusk’s men took their unbeaten top flight league run to five matches with the victory over Terry Westley’s side on the south coast, and the striker reflected honestly on the contest.

“I thought we started off slowly this evening and then they took the lead before the break.

“We came in at half time and talked about what we had to improve and what we could do better.

“The lads put that into practice and we’ve ended up getting the two goals to get us a win, so we can be pleased with the evening as a whole.”

Draws against Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur respectively have been followed by wins over Manchester City and Friday night’s opponents – and the side’s top scorer highlighted the importance of maintaining the standards the side have set so far.

“It’s been a good start to the season for both the team and myself, we’ve handled the step up in division realty well.

“We’ve got two wins and three draws against some top sides and we’ve shown that we can compete.

“The aim for the group now is to continue that and hopefully we can do that for a long time."
