U23 Preview: Leicester City V Albion

By Kieran Cleeves • 24 September 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-23s will look to continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League 2 Division 1 season, when they take on Leicester City at Holmes Park this evening, kick-off 7pm.

The Seagulls can reclaim top spot with victory over the Foxes, while tonight’s opponents need just a draw to reach the league summit, as they currently sit two points ahead of Simon Rusk’s side.

Albion remain the only unbeaten team in the league, having drawn their opening three matches before claiming victories over Manchester City and West Ham United on home soil.

Points were taken from games against Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, before an emphatic 5-1 win against City and a narrow 2-1 comeback victory over the Hammers at the Amex Stadium.

Goals from Aaron Connolly and Viktor Gyokeres overturned West Ham’s lead on the south coast, as the forward pair took their goal tallies to five and three respectively.

Albion then welcomed Everton to the south coast in the Premier League International Cup, and despite overturning an early goal to lead 2-1, thanks to goals from Ben Barclay and James Tilley, the Toffees hit back to claim a point.

Tonight’s opponents are three league matches unbeaten heading into the match, with these most recent 1-1 draw against Chelsea coming after convincing victories over Blackburn Rovers and Derby County.

The Foxes tasted their only defeat to league leaders Everton at Goodison Park, but opened the campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory against Swansea City at the King Power Stadium.

The Seagulls return to the Midlands next weekend for a match against Derby, and Rusk’s team will be desperate to keep their unbeaten record intact going into the fixture.

Albion supporters can follow a live text blog from the Match Centre this evening, with a match report being uploaded after the game.
