March: Let's Start How We Finish

By Kieran Cleeves • 29 September 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion winger Solly March believes the team will start picking up more points when they manage to correct their slow starts to Premier League matches, which has seen the Seagulls trail by two goals in three successive games.

Chris Hughton’s side head to reigning Premier League champions Manchester City this afternoon, and March is focused on making a quicker start after learning lessons over previous weeks.

He said, “If you look at our first six games, we’ve had a tough start and I think we’ve done well, but if we started a few of those games better, we definitely could have had another win or two.

“We’ve been 2-0 down in three games now, and that’s not good enough in the Premier League. You’re going to struggle to get wins at 1-0 down, let alone being 2-0 down.

“We’ve done well to get two draws from those games, but we obviously got nothing from Tottenham last weekend, which was disappointing.

“If we start games as well as we finish games, we’ll win a lot more of them. Maybe it’s a mentality to start with more energy and press higher up the pitch - hopefully we’ll get the rewards if we do that.”

During the 2017/18 campaign, the Seagulls were unable to claim any points against the top six, but with a season’s worth of Premier League football under their belts, March urged his team-mates to believe in themselves ahead of today’s trip.

“It’s hard to get points from the top six away from home, but if you can pick up a few points against them, it can really make a difference.

“Our first season in the Premier League was perhaps a bit daunting, but we now believe in ourselves and need to put a mark on the games early doors.

“The fans are great and they get behind us at home and away, so maybe it’s just a little barrier that we need to push through.”
