Murray Reflects On A Tough Start

By James Hilsum • 02 October 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion striker Glenn Murray believes the side can now turn a corner after a tough start to the season, heading into Friday night’s fixture against West Ham United at the Amex Stadium.

The Seagulls faced four of last season’s top six sides in their opening seven games of the season, and Murray is eager to get some wins on the board, starting with the visit of the Hammers.

He said, “We look at the season in blocks and this opening eight games was going to be difficult. We’ve got Liverpool and Man City away out the way, and Tottenham and Manchester United at home too.

“We managed to pick up some points in between those games, but it would be great to add to that tally against West Ham in a group of games where we don’t face any of last season’s top six.

“It has been a tough start, and now we have to build on what we’ve done already.”

Hammers striker Marko Arnautovic has started the season in fine form with four goals in his opening six appearances, and Murray identified the Austrian as one of the main players to look out for.

“He’s a fantastic player and he’s shown that at West Ham by carrying the team at stages last year.

“He showed what a top-quality player he is and has started off in the same vein as last season, so we know he’s the danger man and we’ve got to keep a lid on him.”

Albion’s game against the east Londoners kicks off this weekend’s Premier League action, and although the Seagulls frontman dismissed the notion that it could be an advantage, he spoke about the excitement of playing under the lights at the Amex.

“I don’t think it will make any difference playing first, but we’ve got good memories of playing on a Friday night under the lights at the Amex.

“The crowd is always big and loud and they create a very good atmosphere.”
