New Deals For Dunk And Duffy

By James Hilsum • 05 October 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion defensive duo Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy have both agreed new five-year contracts, extending their time at the club until June 2023.

Youth-team graduate Dunk has since gone onto make more than 200 appearances for the club, while Duffy arrived from Blackburn Rovers for a then club-record fee in August 2016.

Manager Chris Hughton said, “I am delighted for both Lewis and Shane. They have been terrific players for the club; helping us win promotion and establish ourselves in the Premier League last season.

“They have formed a very good central defensive partnership, and have played a really important role in what we’ve achieved.

“Both are vital members of the squad, and it’s very pleasing that they’ve committed their long-term futures to the club.”

Dunk made his Albion debut against MK Dons in May 2010, and was part of the squad that won that the League One title the following campaign.

The 26-year-old had a brief spell out on loan at Bristol City in 2013, but returned to become a mainstay in the side.

Duffy began his career as a youngster with Everton, where he made ten senior appearances. He made his Toffees debut in the Europa League against AEK Athens in December 2009.

After loan spells with Burnley, Scunthorpe United and Yeovil Town, he secured a permanent move to Blackburn in September 2014, playing 69 times and scoring seven goals ahead of his move to Albion.

He also has 21 caps for the Republic of Ireland, and was part of the squad that qualified for the knockout stages of Euro 2016.
