Murray Eager To Reach Albion Century

By Adam Powers • 06 October 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion striker Glenn Murray is eager to notch his 100th goal for the club after scoring his 99th during Albion's 1-0 victory over West Ham United on Friday night.

The marksman slotted home from close range in the 25th minute against Manuel Pellegrini's men, leaving him one short of a century, after moving on to five goals for the season so far.

He said, "I'll be happy to see the 100th goal come and go.

"I had a couple of half chances to get the 100th - maybe I should have done better with one - but it wasn't to be tonight.

"It'll be a huge achievement to look back on - to get 100 goals for Brighton - but as soon as it's come and gone, the better, because it will be an extra goal in the tally."

Last night’s win against West Ham United leaves Albion on eight points from eight games, having faced four of last season's top six already - Murray expressed the importance of the three points, as the Seagulls now enter a run of games against clubs on similar point tallies.

"We always go into games thinking we can win, we never believe we're going to lose.

"Going to Anfield and the Etihad is really tough, but it's a positive that those games are done already. We look at this next eight to 10 games against teams that are around us, and we believe we can get points out of them.

"The victory on Friday was massive. We went back to what we built our success of last year on - clean sheets. One goal was enough, and we got a big three points before everyone plays, and the international break."

The 35-year-old admitted is enjoying his time on the pitch more than ever during the 2018/19 Premier League campaign.

"At my age you don't take playing in the Premier League for granted.

"So I'm taking a bit of extra time to appreciate where I am, enjoy playing in front of a packed home crowd. It's not going to last forever, so you have to make the most of it."
