Hughton, Rosenior And Aitc Support Anti-racism Campaign

By Richard Morris • 25 October 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion and Albion in the Community have once again shown their support for anti-racism charity Show Racism the Red Card.

Albion manager Chris Hughton, who is a long-term supporter of the charity’s campaign, appears in a new educational film produced by Show Racism the Red Card, which premiered last night.

He also proudly wore a Show Racism the Red Card badge during the Seagulls’ recent Premier League match with Newcastle United.

The club and AITC have a long history of working alongside the charity - AITC and Show Racism the Red Card recently co-hosted an anti-racism event at the American Express Community Stadium.

Eighty pupils from eight different Sussex schools attended the day, which was organised as part of Black History Month and included a guest appearance from Albion coach and former Premier League player Liam Rosenior.

Rosenior, a long-term supporter of Show Racism the Red Card and former AITC ambassador, took part in a question-and-answer session with students, who had earlier enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium. The students also took part in a range of different workshops throughout the day.

Frazer Simpkins, education co-ordinator at AITC, helped deliver part of the anti-racism day. He said, “It’s vital we use the power of football and the profile of the Albion to tackle discrimination in all its forms and it was great to once again be working closely with our friends from Show Racism the Red Card.

“The students who took part in the day really embraced the subject matter and we were very impressed by the way they engaged with our workshops.

“We’re also very thankful to Liam for giving up his time and being such as fantastic role model for young people.”

It was a sentiment shared by Ged Grebby, chief executive at Show Racism the Red Card, who was also keen to thank AITC and the football club for their continued support.

Mr Grebby said, “Show Racism the Red Card has a fantastic relationship with Brighton & Hove Albion and we are proud to work in partnership with the club and AITC to organise anti-racism educational events for young people.

“I would like to take this opportunity thank Chris, Liam, and everyone at Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club and Albion in the Community for the support they continue to give Show Racism the Red Card.”
