Checkatrade Preview: Albion Look To Seal Progress

By Kieran Cleeves • 13 November 2018

A Brighton & Hove Albion under-23 side travel to MK Dons in the Checkatrade Trophy this evening, and Simon Rusk’s side will be looking to seal their place in the knockout stages.

The Seagulls sit level on points with tonight’s opponents and Peterborough United, however they find themselves just outside the qualification spots in third place on goal difference.

Rusk’s team need to better the result of Peterborough, who play group leaders Luton Town, or match them for a draw and win the resulting penalty shootout for an extra point, while hoping the Hatters win on spot kicks.

If Peterborough lose to Luton, Albion will need to either beat MK Dons or draw the match and win the penalty shootout for an extra points to finish above Paul Tisdale's side.

Albion came back from 2-0 down in their previous group fixture at the ABAX Stadium, before winning the penalty shootout against Peterborough to keep their chances of qualification alive.

Tonight’s opponents also defeated the Posh from 12 yards after sharing the spoils in normal time, while Luton claimed victory in both of their matches to reach the knockout stages.

On their most recent outing, Albion tasted only their second league defeat of the season against Everton, while MK Dons lost 3-1 to Grimsby Town in the first round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Albion supporters can purchase tickets using cash only at the away ticket booth at Stadium MK this evening — which is located located next to the away entrance at gate three — or at the club’s box office.
