Hughton Delighted With Six-point Week

By Kieran Cleeves • 10 December 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton put the disappointment of Saturday’s result to one side and highlighted the six points his team collected from three matches as being a successful week.

Victories over Huddersfield Town and Crystal Palace came before the 1-0 defeat against Burnley at Turf Moor, and Hughton assessed the trio of matches that helped the Seagulls climb the Premier League table.

He said, “Overall I’ve got to be delighted. After the first two games, if we’d come here [Turf Moor] and not turned up, then it would have been a disappointing end to the week.

“But I think we came here and had a go — I can’t accuse the players of not having a go — so we have to look at the week as not being bad.

“We’ve played 16 games and nine of them have been away from home, so that’s also something to take into consideration.”

On Saturday morning Albion knew victory over the Clarets could have moved them as high as sixth in the Premier League, but Hughton insisted the team must focus on taking one step at a time.

“What pleases me is that outside of that top six, most teams can give one another a run. We’ve probably proved that at our best we are a match for any team outside of the top six.

“What Burnley did last season was a wonderful feat, but you’ve got to have so many things going for you. Can that happen in the future? Well that’s the future.

“Our thoughts are still about improving ourselves and trying to make sure the gap to the bottom three is as big as possible.

“At the moment it’s just about establishing ourselves. I still like to see us as a developing club and we’ll see where that takes us.”
