Ryan: Let's Be More Clinical

By Alex Stedman • 10 December 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Maty Ryan conceded that the side could have been more ruthless with their opportunities following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor.

James Tarkwoski's first-half goal separated the two sides in tough conditions in Lancashire, and the Australian reflected on the team’s late openings against Sean Dyche's men, as well as the goal the Seagulls conceded before the break.

He said, “I don’t think we were clinical enough with the chances we managed to create, and our quality let us down in the final third – we didn’t hit the target enough.

“Their goal is one  that we’ve come to expect from them in terms of style, and we should have done better when dealing with it.

“We knew they’d try to get balls in the box and we didn’t win the second one when it fell, and that’s the key to not getting anything from the game.”

Next up for the Albion is a game against Chelsea at the Amex Stadium on Sunday afternoon, and having recorded back-to-back victories over Huddersfield Town and Crystal Palace at the start of last week, Ryan highlighted the need to look at the top-flight schedule one game at a time.

“We always just take each game as it comes, we enjoy the wins when they come, but you have to deal with the other side of the game as well when you don’t get a result.

“For us now it’s about looking ahead to next weekend – we had two good wins and then we had a chance to take the game to a side who may have been a bit low on confidence.

“It’s a tough place to come but I felt we were in the game with a fair share of chances, and the way we’ve lost it doesn’t feel fair given how we played overall.”
