Everyone at Brighton & Hove Albion is saddened by the news of Willie Young’s passing.
The Scotsman played four times for the Albion during the 1983/84 season but made his name in England while at Arsenal, making 236 appearances for the Gunners after making the move from Aberdeen.
While north of the border, Young made 187 appearances for the Dons before signing for Tottenham Hotspur in 1975.
After making the switch across the capital to Arsenal, Young became a regular for the Gunners and won the FA Cup in 1979 while becoming a cult hero at Highbury.
Following his spell at Arsenal, Young joined Nottingham Forest in 1981 for ÂŁ50,000 before a spell at Norwich City and then a loan move to the Albion.
His four appearances for the club saw the Scotsman face Manchester City, which finished in a 1-1 draw, before Chris Cattlin’s side beat both Derby and Leeds 3-0. Young scored in the win against Leeds before ending his loan spell on the south coast in a 5-1 defeat to Portsmouth.
The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Young’s family and friends at this sad time.
