Albion defender Adam Webster will leave the club this summer when his current contract expires at the end of June.
Everyone at Brighton & Hove Albion would like to thank Adam for his commitment and professionalism during his time with the club and wish him every success for the future.
Men's first-team coach Fabian Hurzeler paid tribute, saying, "During the time we had together I will never forget what you did for us, especially last season in a tough period. You stepped up as a great leader. You stepped up as a great person. You really showed our principles on the pitch and beside the pitch.Â
“You have a great positivity in your character, and that always makes a team run, makes a team work hard and makes a team successful.Â
“Unfortunately in pre-season you had a tough moment with this big injury, but I know that you will come back stronger. Rehab feels lonely sometimes, but I want you to know that you should never feel lonely because you have so many people here in Brighton - in the team, players and staff - who will be there for you, who will support you even when you're not here anymore.
Brighton defender Adam Webster joins us on the BHA podcast to reflect on his journey with the Seagulls.
Since arriving in 2019 for a then club-record transfer fee, Webster has become a commanding presence in defence, making over 150 appearances and playing a pivotal role in Brighton’s Premier League rise.
Recently, a knee ligament injury has meant he faces a long spell on the sidelines. In this candid conversation, Adam shares how he’s coping with the setback, his mindset during recovery and his unwavering commitment to return stronger for the club that has come to rely so heavily on him.
“I want to wish you all the best for the future. Stay as you are. I always said to you that good things will come to good people, and you are a great person, so great things will come to you. All the best for your future. Stay strong, and we will see each other on the pitch.”
Signed from Bristol City in August 2019, the Chichester-born defender quickly established himself in the side, bringing composure on the ball and defensive reliability. A popular presence in defence, Adam has also been a key member of the squad leadership group in recent seasons.Â
After making his Premier League debut in the 2019/20 season he became a trusted and composed figure at the heart of the defence, forging a superb partnership alongside Lewis Dunk. Â
A modern centre-back comfortable in possession, he was integral to our on-field progress throughout his time here, making 158 appearances and scoring eight for the club; and he has played his part in one of the most progressive periods in the club’s history.
He helped Albion secure European qualification for the first time after the club secured its highest-ever finish of sixth in the Premier League.
Last summer he suffered a cruel knee injury during pre-season which ruled him out for the season, but Adam continued to be a positive presence around the training ground.Â
He is expected to return to training for pre-season and in the meantime will continue his rehabilitation with the club's medical team at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre during the summer.
