Tom Watson scored twice in the first half for England Under-20s in a friendly against Italy in Rome last Friday and then set up a third goal for Ayden Heaven after the break.
But Italy fought back with three goals in the last 25 minutes to draw 3-3.
Watson, currently on loan with Millwall, played for 69 minutes.
James Beadle played for the Under-21s in a 1-1 draw against Andorra in a European Championship qualifier which kept them top of the group and unbeaten, but it needed a last-minute goal by Rico Lewis to deny Andorra famous victory.
England play their next qualifier against Moldova on Tuesday at Carrow Road, Norwich.
Brajan Gruda had 45 minutes for Germany before coming off in their 3-0 win over Northern Ireland in Braunschweig. The Germans play group leaders Greece, who have a 100% record having won in Germany earlier this season, on Tuesday in Athens.
Diego Coppola was an unused sub in Italy’s 2-0 win over Northern Ireland which set up Tuesday’s play-off final against Bosnia Herzegovina with a place in the World Cup finals at stake.
Domestically, Harrogate’s plight at the bottom of League Two worsened with a 2-0 home defeat to play-off contenders Notts County. Jacob Slater played the whole game for Harrogate.
In League One Reading beat Wigan Athletic 3-0 to maintain their play-off push.
Kamari Doyle played the first half for the Royals with Caylan Vickers coming on for the final 14 minutes for Wigan.
In Scotland, Jess Pegram was an unused substitute for Rangers who lost 2-1 to Glasgow City in the Sky Sports Cup final.
