Head coach Dario Vidosic praised his side’s defensive resilience and structural discipline after Albion played out a hard-fought goalless draw against Liverpool in the Women’s Super League.
In a tightly contested affair at the Broadfield Stadium, both sides enjoyed spells of possession but struggled to carve out clear-cut opportunities. For Vidosic, however, the ability to completely shut out a dangerous Liverpool attack was a significant takeaway.
"It was a very competitive, physical game from the very first whistle," Vidosic said. "We knew Liverpool would make it incredibly difficult for us but it felt like we were the better team and we should have been the winner. They are a well-organised team who transition very quickly, so to limit their chances and come away with a hard-earned clean sheet is something we have to be genuinely pleased with.
"Defensively, we were excellent across the pitch. The backline held their shape, we won our individual duels, and we remained fully disciplined without the ball. When you are playing against the attacking quality they have, you have to be switched on for the entire 90 minutes. I thought the players did exactly that and showed fantastic concentration. There’s a lot there to be proud of.”
While Albion’s defensive structure provided a reliable foundation, Vidosic admitted his side lacked the decisive, clinical edge required in the final third to claim all three points.

"With the ball, there were definitely periods where we looked very comfortable and dictated the tempo, but we just lacked that final bit of quality," he added. "We got ourselves into some really promising areas, particularly when overloading the wide channels, but the final pass, the cross or the finish just wasn't quite there today. We had no recognised No9 and with Kiko (Seike) missing no natural winger either.
"We created a few half-chances and forced their goalkeeper into action, but to win these tight, gritty games, you have to be ruthless. That is the next step in our progression. We need to turn those moments of possession into genuine goalscoring opportunities."
Despite the slight frustration of not finding the back of the net, Vidosic remains highly optimistic about the team’s overall trajectory with a trip to Leicester City next up on Sunday.
"It’s a solid point on the board and another block in the foundation we are trying to build here," he added. "If you can't win the game, the golden rule is that you make sure you don't lose it. We showed great character to dig in and ensure we took something from the match.
"We will take the positives from our defensive display, look closely at the areas where we need to sharpen up in possession, and get straight back to work on the grass this week."
