Arturo Ruiz is plotting a second win against WSL opposition when Albion resume their Subway Players Cup campaign on Wednesday.

A week after beating Charlton Athletic 4-0, Ruiz’s side return to the Broadfield Stadium to take on free-scoring Spurs.

Tottenham have won their last two WSL games 7-0 against Crystal Palace and 4-0 over Aston Villa on Sunday, although they were held to a goalless draw by West Ham in their opening match in the newly formatted Players Cup and lost the subsequent penalty shoot-out.

The top eight teams at the end of the six-match qualifying league go through to the quarter-finals with the top four having home advantage.

And head coach Ruiz knows beating Spurs will go a long way towards helping achieve their objective.

“Spurs are a team with really good form but if we can beat another WSL team we will have six points from two matches and that’s where we want to be,” he said.

“The aim is to finish in the top four so we can play the quarter-final at our home.”

Ruiz made seven changes for the win over Charlton and with none of his injured players ready to return on Wednesday there will again be rotation.

But he is happy with his team’s progress in the first three weeks of the new season, and having only been at the club for just over a month appreciates it is going to take time for the team to play with his identity.

“We keep building and I am happy. It is going to take time but we have been competitive in every game,” he said.

“On Saturday against London City Lionesses (in the WSL) we gave the best version of ourselves. We just needed to be more clinical with the chances we created. We are making good progress, but it will take time."
