Albion fought back with two goals in the last 13 minutes against promoted Birmingham City at St Andrew’s on Sunday to secure their first points in the 2026-27 WSL campaign.

An early goal from Oceane Hurtre put the home side in front and their advantage was later doubled by a low drive from Lily Crosthwaite.

Arturo Ruiz’s side fought hard though and substitute Olivia Garcia's first goal for Albion made it 2-1 in the 77th minute. Albion kept pushing and Kiko Seike equalised in the fifth minute of stoppage time after good work by Fran Kirby.

Albion thought they had taken an early lead.

Maisie Symonds nodded down a corner at the feet of Moeka Minami who rifled the ball into the roof of the net, but the goal was later disallowed for an earlier foul.

Albion were punished on eight minutes. A mistake from Caitlin Hayes at the back, forced by Oceane Hurtre, saw her one-on-one with goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. Hurtre kept her composure as she slid the ball into the bottom corner.

Albion responded well and a fine passage of play in midfield eventually found Maisie Symonds on the edge of the area. Her back-post cross found Kirby, but her header was saved by former Albion keeper Sophie Baggaley.

Albion started to take more control and had a good spell of possession. Seike forced a great save from Baggaley midway through the second half.

Llly Crosthwaite had a goal disallowed for offside before Hurtre had the crowd on the edge of their seats, coming close to her second with a long-range strike which fizzed past Nnadozie’s far post.

Birmingham came out quickly following the break and made it 2-0 on 51 minutes. Hurtre again found herself in space on the left. Her early cross to Crosthwaite was drilled low and hard inside Nnadozie’s far post.

Albion looked to react right away. A free-kick on the edge of the area found Hayes whose header was tipped over the bar by Baggaley. Minutes later a cross from Manuela Vanegas found Madison Haley but her effort went wide of the post.

The chances were coming for Albion and their substitutes had certainly injected more energy into the attack. In the 77th minute, Haley's shot rebounded to the feet of substitute Garcia who capitalised and pulled one back.

Albion piled on the pressure and deep into stoppage time it paid off when Seike found the top corner after good work by Kirby.
