Shannon Ruth was delighted with his Under-21s after a 4-0 victory at Ewood Park ‘that had a bit of everything.’
Two goals for Nehemiah Oriola, a penalty from Josh Robertson and a thumping close-range finish from Charlie Penman in the dying moments made it back-to-back league victories following the opening day defeat of West Bromwich Albion.
And the head coach was delighted with the application.
He said, “I am pleased because that had a bit of everything. I thought, first-half, we were really really good and we deserved the lead.

‘But Blackburn started the second-half well and we had to defend our box and suffer in tricky moments. Then we stepped on again and finished the game looking strong. So, I’m happy - because the all-round performance was very good.”
Ruth was also pleased because, organisationally, he felt his group were strong.
“The boys said it at half-time that everyone knows what everyone else is going to do. They are really connected as a group. They’re on the same page with how we want to play. They help each other.
“When one gives a ball away, they all work really hard to get it back for him. You never see them blame or moan. It’s a cohesive group and that’s really helped us.”

Nehemiah Oriola scored twice and could have claimed a hat-trick but missed a penalty from the spot.
Ruth said, “He’s a bright young footballer, for sure. We like the way he carries the ball and how dynamic he is in one-on-one situations.
“What I also liked though was his reaction from missing a penalty. That was fantastic - and resulted in him scoring his second goal.”
