The former midfielder returned to Albion in 2021, progressing to become professional development phase coach with the men’s under-21s.
The Irishman will be continuing his coaching career in the USA with Charlotte FC, but is hugely appreciative of the chance he had to return here.
“When I first came in to where I am now, I'm a hell of a lot better. Because when you stop playing, you've got loads of stuff in your head.
But the staff and the environment here and how I've developed with the club has been a really good fit and without Brighton I wouldn't be getting this opportunity in America now.
"I made sure the players knew that as well when I spoke to them and all the staff because everyone's played a part.
“There'll be a lot of good stuff that's going on with Charlotte FC and then it’s about trying to add your own stuff. The standard [in the USA] is getting better. Is it the Premier League? No. But what other league is?
“So I'm looking forward to it and it's an opportunity to test myself as a head coach.
“That's been a part of my job here as a development coach, to help make people better, whether you're a manager at under-12 or you're in the first team, you’ve got to make people better.”
