Former Southampton coach takes on academy role.

We are pleased to confirm that Carl Martin has been appointed as our men’s under-18s head coach.

The 39-year-old arrives having spent just under seven years at Southampton, latterly holding the role of men’s first team assistant manager.

Academy manager Ian Buckman said, “Carl has a wealth of experience in both academy and first team football, while his principles match well with the vision we have for the under-18s.

“We had a thorough recruitment process that saw us speak to a number of highly qualified individuals, but Carl stood out and we’re delighted that he’s joining us.

“I’d also like to thank Steven Menzies and Tomer Hemed who took over the under-18s on an interim basis last season. They both greatly impacted the group and the excellent end of season form reflects that. I am sure they found the experience hugely beneficial in their ongoing development.”

Speaking after his appointment, Carl said, “I am delighted to be joining. It’s a fantastic opportunity at a club who have an outstanding reputation for developing young players. I am thankful to the club for the trust they’re putting in me.

“I am really looking forward to working with the players and staff. Hopefully together we can create an environment where everyone can thrive and most importantly take steps towards first team football. I am excited for the season ahead.”
