Luka Vuskovic's first goal for the club earns Albion a point.

Luka Vuskovic scored his first goal for the club as Albion produced a second-half fightback to earn a deserved point against Leeds at the Amex.

The visitors haven’t won any of their 11 visits to Sussex now although that looked like changing when Jayden Bogle gave them a first-half lead.

Bart Verbruggen made two crucial saves to prevent Leeds from scoring again but as the game wore on Albion got stronger and Vuskovic headed in a corner in the 72nd minute.

Albion pushed for a winner but Promise David and Pascal Gross squandered great chances in the closing stages.

Leeds’ threat on transition was evident from the start although it was from a set-piece that they took a 16th-minute lead.

Dominic Calvert Lewin forced a great save by Verbruggen with a header from a recycled corner but Ao Tanaka reacted quickest and his ball across the face of goal was tapped in by Bogle.

It needed a goalline clearance by Lewis Dunk to prevent Albion from conceding again after Calvert-Lewin beat the offside trap and rounded Verbruggen and, when Albion didn’t clear the corner, Noah Okafor hit the bar with a volley.

Albion had been guilty of giving the ball away too often but they began to get to grips with the task and James Trafford made a great reaction save in the 29th minute when Diego Gomez let fly on the angle after Olivier Boscagli found him with a crossfield ball.

But it was a rare attacking threat by Albion in a disjointed first-half performance and just after the break Verbruggen had to make an instinctive block with his right foot to prevent Anton Stach from doubling Leeds’ lead before Tanaka did find the net, only to be flagged offside.

Albion stirred and Pascal Gross’s right-foot shot shaved the outside of the post before Verbruggen pushed away James Justin’s shot after another break by the visitors.

Babis Kostoulas should have equalised midway through the second half. He did well to go past three challenges but his shot from 12 yards had neither the power or placement to trouble Trafford.

Albion had some momentum though. Malick Yalcouye forced Trafford to push away his curling effort before the equaliser came when, with Trafford stranded, Vuskovic rose at the far post to nod home De Cuyper’s inswinging corner.

Yalcouye should have done better when he sprung the offside trap but Tarik Muharemovic got back to make a crucial intervention.

Leeds responded and Lewis Dunk threw himself in front of Lukas Nmecha’s shot but Albion had the momentum and Trafford made an important save as Ayari aimed for the far corner.

Both sides might have won it in the closing stages. Promise David had the opportunity to make himself an instant hero but the ball bounced off his knee when Boscagli’s cross reached him on the edge of the six-yard box.

Gross had his head in his hands after volleying over from six yards and Calvert-Lewin dragged a shot wide of the far post but it was honours even, which felt about right.
