Albion named the starting XI with the youngest average age in the Premier League so far this season on Saturday.
Averaging 23 years and 240 days, it marginally beats the Bournemouth side that featured against Everton at the start of the month (23 years and 254 days).
We have only named a younger team during our eight-and-a-half years in the Premier League twice - both of which have come under Fabian Hurzeler - against Southampton in February (23 years and 191 day) and Spurs in May (23 years 209 days).
Saturday’s stat would have read a little differently had James Milner, who is the oldest player to appear in the league this season, started. The midfielder was 39 years and 350 days old when he came on after 71 minutes. Instead, Albion’s oldest starter on the day was 28-year-old Olivier Boscagli.
In the top 50 youngest teams to be named so far this Premier League campaign, Albion have six entries.
In contrast, the oldest team we’ve named this campaign averaged 28 years, with four players over the age of 30 starting in our 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth.
