Our men’s under-21s played two 60 minute friendlies against League Two side Bromley on Saturday.
Shannon Ruth’s team were beaten in both contests, with the first finishing 2-1 and the second 2-0.
Charlie Tasker scored Albion’s goal in the first outing, tapping in from Samy Chouchane’s cross.
Under-21s head coach Shannon Ruth said on the first 60 minutes, “We started the game really well. In the first 15 minutes I thought Bromley struggled to deal with our patterns and rotations, which led to us taking the lead.
“We continued to play some nice stuff and had lots of control without creating enough clear-cut chances.
“The team recovered well after conceding and took relative control again, but found it difficult to break down their low block before going behind late on."
On the second 60 minutes he said, “We started the game well again and we carried a threat with a different system. A few half chances went begging and then we made a couple of mistakes which led to us going 2-0 down. It’s an important lesson for the players, that you can be punished when you are playing a senior team.
“That said, they kept going and we managed to create a couple of good chances which unfortunately we didn’t take on the day.
“Overall it was a really good test for us. They were extremely direct and physical which added great variety to our pre-season fixture programme. It was also a good lesson for some of the young players who have just joined the group.”
