Luca Barrington scored a brilliant goal as Grimsby Town secured a vital win in their push for a League Two play-off spot.
The Mariners beat Morecambe 3-1 with Barrington smashing home a wonderful strike from the edge of the box before teeing up Kieran Green for his second of the game. They now sit seventh in the fourth tier, three points clear of eighth spot.
Also on the scoresheet was Abdallah Sima, who netted Stade Brest’s opener in their 2-1 win over Monaco. The Senegalese striker was slightly fortunate to see keeper Philipp Kohn spill his volley into the back of the net, but the 23-year-old won’t care too much as he bagged his fourth league goal of the campaign.
That result unwittingly helped Valentin Barco and Strasbourg, who continued their incredible run with a 1-0 win at Reims, moving them into a Champions League spot and one point off third place Monaco. Under Liam Rosenior, Strasbourg have won 11 of their last 14 league games, losing only once in that run.
Sticking on the continent, Sturm Graz maintained their spot at the top of the Austrian Bundesliga with a 2-0 win over Rapid Vienna, with both Kjell Scherpen and Malick Yalcouye starting. In the Netherlands, Ibrahim Osman came off the bench for Feyenoord in their 1-0 win over AZ Alkmaar.
Back on English soil, Julio Enciso’s Ipswich Town threw away a one-goal lead to lose to relegation rivals Wolves, while Facundo Buonanotte’s Leicester City face Newcastle United on Monday night.
In the EFL, Crawley’s hopes of retaining their League One status took a serious knock after a 3-1 defeat to Stevenage, with Kamari Doyle unable to add to his six goals so far for the Red Devils. Odel Offiah's Blackpool lost 2-1 against Rotherham, while Caylan Vickers’s Mansfield Town were beaten 2-1 by Huddersfield Town.
In the Scottish second division, Ben Jackson’s Queens Park were well beaten by Livingston, but there was better news in Non-League.
Harry Lee started in a 1-0 win for Gosport Borough against Basingstoke. It was a big result for Boro’, dragging them away from relegation danger. Lorenz Ferdinand also tasted victory with Havant and Waterloovile, who secured a 3-2 win over Swindon Submarine.
The players who were named in matchday squads but didn't make an appearance were James Beadle (Sheffield Wednesday), Andrew Moran (Stoke City), Amario Cozier-Duberry (Blackburn Rovers) and Evan Ferguson (West Ham).
