Amario Cozier-Duberry described the ‘goosebumps’ he had after scoring his first senior goal on his first senior start.
The 19-year-old winger, who joined Albion from Arsenal in the summer and netted twice against Tokyo Verdy during our pre-season tour in Japan, scored the opening goal in Blackburn’s 2-0 win against Luton on Saturday.
“I got goosebumps when it went in and I could hear the fans roaring. It felt so good," said Cozier-Duberry.
“It's my first professional goal and I'm delighted with it. I got on it, the defender came, I chopped back and then had a whack at it with my right foot.
“It was so memorable and I'm so grateful and very happy.”
Elsewhere in the second tier, Andrew Moran was also on the scoresheet as Stoke battled to a 2-2 draw with fellow strugglers Cardiff, James Beadle made his 40th Championship appearance as Sheffield Wednesday beat Oxford United 3-1 and Jeremy Sarmiento helped Burnley make it eight league games unbeaten with a 2-1 win at Norwich.
Further down the EFL, Odel Offiah helped Blackpool continue their impressive run of form with a 3-0 victory at Reading, which moved the Tangerines into League’s One top ten with their third consecutive win, but Samy Chouchane and Northampton suffered a 3-0 loss at Rotherham.
Tom McGill and MK Dons also tasted defeat in League Two as their incredible six-game winning run, which lifted Scott Lindsey’s side to within a point of the play-off places, ended with a 1-0 reverse at Gillingham and Luca Barrington’s ten-minute cameo couldn’t prevent Grimsby from losing 2-0 to Crewe.
There was top-flight action on these shores and beyond for Facundo Buonanotte, Ibrahim Osman and Abdallah Sima but Buonanotte’s Leicester went down 4-0 at Newcastle. There was more success for Osman and Sima as the former’s Feyenoord won 5-2 against Heracles Almelo and the latter’s Stade Brest beat FC Nantes 4-1.
Sima scored twice for the Ligue 1 side to take his domestic tally this season to three in ten games and six in total having already notched three goals in the Champions League this term.
Women’s Football
It was also a busy weekend for our women’s players out on loan with Lily Dent stealing the headlines by scoring Portsmouth’s well-deserved leveller against Sunderland.
Grace McEwan also played for Pompey in that 2-2 draw against the Black Cats as our south coast counterparts secured their second point in the Women’s Championship.
In the same league, Libby Bance played 90 minutes for Bristol City as the Robins beat Durham 5-0 to stay joint top alongside Birmingham City, while in the division above, Li Mengwen was on the pitch for 86 minutes as West Ham lost 3-1 to Aston Villa.
