Jack Hinshelwood has hailed the experience of reaching the final of the UEFA U21 Euros as 'incredible', but says the job is far from done as they prepare for Saturday’s showpiece against Germany.
A Harvey Elliott brace saw England overcome The Netherlands 2-1 in the semi-finals on Wednesday evening in Bratislava, with the squad’s sprinkling of stardust and closeness key to the win, according to Jack.
“I think we have got such a great togetherness and camaraderie in the group. We knew setbacks were going to come throughout the game and obviously their goal came a bit out of nowhere.
“But we showed great fight and have come up with a bit of magic – it was enough to put us through to the final.
“We’ve got several of those sorts of players in the group, players who can produce moments of magic like Harvey [Elliott], we had Omari [Hutchinson] down on the left side as well who was great throughout the game, causing all sorts of problems. And Jay [Stansfield] up front was a handful again.
“So we've got a lot of players in the group who can cause problems for the opposition. Wednesday night was Harvey's night and he popped up with two goals. It was massive for us to get through.”
Our academy graduate once again had to show his versatility, starting the game at left back, but was typically unfazed.
“I've played a lot of different positions with Brighton and with England – filling in at left back is probably not my main position, but I know I can do a job there and the manager has put great belief in me, so I'm just trying to repay that faith.
“This is my first international tournament, so it's great being here and I've loved every second. To get to the final is amazing, but we know we've got one more job to do now and that's to bring it home.”
