Brighton were handed their first defeat in six games as they were beaten 3-1 by Newcastle United on Saturday.
Jack Hinshelwood got Albion back into the game with a thunderous strike after the Magpies had gone into a two-goal lead thanks to Will Osula and Dan Burn, before Harvey Barnes rifled home in the sixth minute of stoppage time to seal the win.
It would prove to be the ending of a fine unbeaten run for Albion, while it marked Newcastle's first win in six outings.
An idyllic day on Tyneside teased a perfect away day for the visitors as Kaoru Mitoma took Malick Thiaw out of the equation on the left early on with an exquisite touch before rolling the ball into the path of Jack Hinshelwood. The England Under-21 fired a first-time effort towards the bottom right corner from 15-yards which Nick Pope did well to tip away from danger.

Albion were in the ascendancy and went even closer to scoring when Carlos Baleba curled a stunning 25 yarder against the crossbar, but against the run of play the Magpies took the lead. Bart Verbruggen raced out of his box but was beaten in a legs race by Jacob Murphy, who crossed in to pick out an unmarked Will Osula, with the Dane nodding into an empty net after 12 minutes.
Newcastle then won a corner from a counter-attack that had started with an Albion corner at the other end, which Bruno Guimaraes swung-in and former Albion man Dan Burn headed past Verbruggen.
Fabian Hurzeler’s team returned after half-time with renewed optimism and a tactical tweak as Yankuba Minteh and Kaoru Mitoma switched flanks.

The deficit was halved with just over an hour gone after a lovely passing move cut Newcastle apart; Danny Welbeck slipped Hinshelwood in and he made no mistake, rifling into the top right corner.
A Pascal Gross cross couldn’t find the outstretched boots of either Welbeck and van Hecke, with Yankuba Minteh having the best opportunity to equalise when he skied from six yards out after being picked out by substitute Georginio Rutter.

The end of the game turned into a basketball match which ultimately proved beneficial for the hosts, who added a third through Barnes in the dying embers to seal a much needed win for the Magpies.
